Distinguished vessels for your favorite beverage!

In this hands-on workshop, participants will create a variety of cup and mug forms on the wheel. Demonstrations will include throwing, shaping, and trimming various forms, as well as creating handles for mugs. Participants will leave with a solid understanding of the essential elements of a functional ceramic cup, and an idea of how to build on these to develop their creative voice. I expect participants will finish approximately 6-10 cups, which will be ready to bisque fire.

Samantha Hostert is a ceramic artist and educator living in the Chicago area. She received her BA in art from Santa Clara University and Master’s in Education from DePaul University. She makes functional, comfortable pots to encourage people to slow down and enjoy the rituals and conversations of everyday life. Her playful, elegant work is inspired by natural landscapes and intersections of order and chaos.
